As we begin the 4th quarter, this is a great time to reflect with your student on his/her progress thus far and his/her goals for the final months of the year. It is also a good time to: look at your child’s first, second and third quarter grades; talk about their goals for their final course grades; and develop a plan to achieve those goals. The information below (which is also found beginning on page 16 in the student agenda book) can help guide and inform you in these conversations. For additional information or clarification, please feel free to contact your child’s teachers or guidance counselors.

Total Quality Points

21

Divide the Quality Points (21) by the number of classes taken (7). 21 divided by 7 = 3. In this example above, the student’s GPA is 3.0.

For Seniors, keep in mind that the 4th quarter is very short and thus every assignment is important. We now know our Graduation details (Wednesday, May 30 at 12:00 pm) and thus our sights are set on this day; we look forward to congratulating all of our Seniors as they take the rite of passage across the stage at Merrriweather. It is important, however, that our Seniors do not let “Senioritis” kick in – we hope and expect all of our students display commitment to their education all the way to their final day of high school!

Grades are important; they reflect student learning and achievement. It is also important, however, that students feel positive about their learning experience and that they have set and achieved purposeful goals. Having both reflective and planning conversations can help students achieve all of this.

As always, thanks for your collaboration in supporting the success of our students! Please let us know if you have any questions or need additional information. We look forward to a strong finish of an awesome year!

GO RAIDERS!
